In 2009 members of SNADS were approached to work
with English Heritage at Old Wardour Castle near Tisbury, Wiltshire.
Every year since then they have been asked back to entertain the
anxious ghost hunters.
This year the Spooky tours had a cast & crew of 28
people, they were written, directed, designed and stage managed by
SNADS very capable members. With 4 shows a night the spooky hunters
were alarmed to see a giant gruesome clown on stilts (Ben Court) ,
but do not fear as they were led to rlative safety by a body
snatcher named Douglas Knight (Alan Marsh) and his able assistant
Bobby Hatcher (Alice Ralph). Next they met 3 witches (Linda Cowley,
Vanessa Dawson & Jenny Powell) and Macbeth (Lee Dowell). These
scenes took place in a grotto next to the woods where the technical
team even managed to undertake the difficult task lighting up an
apparition in the woods Jane Cole). Then off to the body snatchers
gruesome grotto, hung with body parts and 3 ghouls (Tess White,
Holly Fripp & Holly Allum).
The audience were then intercepted by a Highwayman
(Amy Trim) and his side kick Dandy Andy (Mark Steggles). A love
triangle between Mary and John (Paula Skinner & Trevor Puckett) and
Mary's husband (Robert Cowley) ended in a duel at the castle. Ditzy
maid Mol (Alison Marsh) and spooky butler Mr Benjamin (Mike White)
led the audience throught the castle where they met the Ghost Story
teller who was played by Ann Baseden aided by a gruesome burnt boy
(Arthur Skinner). In the well room and through a grill, in the
darkness own very own Phantom (Jack English) appeared playing the
piano.
A body from the lake and the Macbeth lead the
audience to the mercy of all the resident ghosts and ghouls, until
they were saved by Ghostbusters (Val Cox & Tania White). Everyone
danced their way to the exit, just in time for the cast and crew to
do it all over again!
Fireworks and technical operations were carried
out by Tim Lacey, John Skinner, Ben Court & Ron Powell.
It was truly a very different aspect for SNADS
members to undertake, but what a fantasic job they did. The feedback
has been great. |
